Healthing Feature: Living With an Invisible Disability
"The main disability icons were Rick Hansen, who is amazing, who is a wheelchair user, and I don't use any mobility aids. And also Terry Fox, who is amazing but who's known kind of for running, and I can't run," Lauren said. "So, there was nothing that I could relate to and there wasn't any language around disability at that time when I was growing up."
A few weeks ago, I was connected to a journalist at Healthing who was writing a story for Invisible Disabilities Week and wanted to interview someone with an invisible disability, to help show audiences what it's like to live with one.
I didn't fully realize the article would be a feature on me, but it came out this week! ๐ฅน๐
From how my disability has shaped all of my life decisions (sometimes without me even realizing it until years later) to the unkind comments I've gotten from strangers on the internet and even an old friend, I hope people can learn a bit more about the invisible disability experience.
